There are not really a lot of real western series on Netflix, so we didn’t want to fill an article with shows that don’t really fall under western. Still, even in our article, there are one or two series that can barely be called western.

Thieves of the Wood (2018-)
The series is set in the 18th century and follows the story of Jan de Lichte, a highwayman who becomes the leader of a gang of thieves in the Ardennes forest. The series is based on the real-life story of Jan de Lichte, a legendary figure in Belgian history who was known for his exploits as a highwayman and folk hero.
Heartland (2007-)
The show is set on a ranch in Alberta, Canada, and follows the lives of a family of ranchers as they work to maintain their ranch and care for the animals in their charge. The central character is a young woman named Amy Fleming, who is a skilled horse trainer and works on the ranch with her sister Lou, her grandfather Jack, and her aunt Marion.
The show explores themes of family, love, and relationships, and follows the characters as they face challenges and overcome adversity.
Hap and Leonard (2016-2018)
The show is based on the series of novels by author Joe R. Lansdale and follows the adventures of two best friends, Hap Collins and Leonard Pine, who are both struggling to get by in the rural town of LaBorde, Texas.
Hap is a white, working-class man with a complicated past, while Leonard is a black, gay Vietnam War veteran with a quick temper. Together, the two friends work to solve various mysteries and crimes while navigating the challenges of living in a small, conservative community.
Cowboy Bebop (1998–1999)
In 2071, roughly fifty years after an accident with a hyperspace gateway made the Earth almost uninhabitable, humanity has colonized most of the rocky planets and moons of the Solar System.
Amid a rising crime rate, the Inter Solar System Police (ISSP) set up a legalized contract system, in which registered bounty hunters (also referred to as “Cowboys”) chase criminals and bring them in alive in return for a reward.
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
Set in the year 2171, the series focuses on the adventures of a ragtag group of bounty hunters chasing down criminals across the Solar System on the Bebop spaceship.
Wynonna Earp (2016-)
Wynonna spent many years on the run and in prison, but now she is finally back home. However, no one is enthusiastic about it. When demons attack the city, she will be their only hope.
Wynonna will have to decide whose side she will fight on in order to remove the stain from her great-grandfather Wyatt Earp’s name once and for all.
From Dawn till Dusk: The Series (2014-2016)
In this supernatural crime series, Seth Gecko and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard “Richie” Gecko, are wanted by the FBI and Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez after a bank robbery left several people, including policemen and Gonzalez’s mentor Texas Ranger Earl McGraw, dead.
Heading for the Mexico border pursued by Gonzalez, the Geckos encounter former minister Jacob Fuller and his family, whom they take hostage by commandeering the Fullers’ RV. Drug lord Don Carlos reroutes them to a strip club populated by snakelike people that all must fight for food to survive until dawn.
Longmire (2011-)
Walt Longmire is the dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming. Widowed only a year, he is a man in psychic repair but buries his pain behind his brave face, unassuming grin and dry wit.
Damnation (2017-2018)
Set in 1931 amidst the American labor wars of the Great Depression, Damnation follows Seth Davenport, a man with a violent past who poses as a preacher as he rallies townsfolk to stand up against greedy industrialists and the corruption of the local bank, sheriff’s department, and newspaper.
He is opposed by Creeley Turner, an ex-con who works for the Pinkerton National Detective Agency and has been hired by a rich industrialist to stop Davenport’s strike. Neither the townsfolk nor the industrialists know that Seth and Creeley are estranged brothers.
The Walking Dead (2010 -)
After waking up from a coma in an abandoned hospital, police officer Rick Grimes discovers that the world he knew is gone – riddled with a zombie outbreak of epic proportions. Not far away, in the suburbs of Atlanta, a small camp of survivors is fighting for their lives as the “dead” surround them at every turn.
Can Rick and the others retain their humanity as they try to survive in this terrifying new world? Can they survive with each other in the midst of all the superhuman circumstances and personal tensions?
The Ranch (2016-2020)
The show takes place on the fictional Iron River Ranch, near the fictitious small town of Garrison, Colorado (population 512, as displayed on a sign in the opening credits). Dialogue places the town in southwestern Colorado (near the real town of Norwood), about six hours from Denver by car.
The series details the life of the Bennetts, a dysfunctional family consisting of brothers Colt and Rooster, their father Beau, and their mother Maggie who owns the local bar.
Frontier (2016-)
The series chronicles the North American fur trade in late 1700s Canada, and follows Declan Harp (Jason Momoa), a half-Irish, half-Cree outlaw who is campaigning to breach the Hudson’s Bay Company’s monopoly on the fur trade in Canada, which has become corrupt and engages in illegal activities to enrich itself.
Godless (2017)
In the series, set in 1884, a young outlaw on the run from his vengeful mentor winds up in a small New Mexico town populated almost entirely by women.
