Titletown High is a Netflix reality show that explores the lives of teens at Valdosta High School in Valdosta, Georgia as they strive for a balance between athletics, academics, and relationships. It focuses on the members of the school’s Valdosta Wildcats football team during the 2020 season, their first under the leadership of head coach Rush Propst.
Underdogs (2013)
Bobby Burkett (Logan Huffman) is a promising quarterback for a struggling high school football team. Vince DeAntonio (D. B. Sweeney) is a former college football offensive coordinator, who abruptly resigned five years earlier, and has now become coach at the high school. The coach realizes the team needs more depth, and recruits several unlikely new players.
Over the course of the season, Bobby falls for Renee (Maddie Hasson) a cheerleader at a rival high school, who also is the love interest of the rival school’s quarterback (Charlie Carver). Bobby’s father (William Mapother), is an inventor who works for the rival quarterback’s father (Richard Portnow). The inventor gets sued by his employer over the intellectual property rights to a new space heater design, and must struggle to keep his invention.
The employer’s company is also planning to move manufacturing to Mexico, eliminating jobs in the community. The story climaxes in a charity football game between the rival teams, which serves as a rallying point for the inventor’s family, the school, and the community.
Home Team (2022)
The comedy tells the story of a disgraced Super Bowl coach who tries to reconnect with his son after his suspension. Two years after winning the Super Bowl, coach Sean Payton (James) is suspended, so he has no choice but to return to his hometown, where he will try to reconnect with his 12-year-old son by starting to coach his team in school.
The Express (2008)
Based on an incredible true story, the film follows the inspirational life of American college football hero Ernie Davis (1939-1963), the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. An exceptional athlete, Davis would become an icon of the increasingly powerful civil rights movement that divided America during the early 1960s due to his disrespect for the tacit racist rules of the time.
Although tragedy prevented a successful athlete from proving himself as a professional, his story will forever change the world of American sports and culture.
Last Chance U (2016–2020)
The first two seasons focus on all aspects of the football program at East Mississippi Community College, one of the most successful JUCO programs in the country. Major themes include the academic struggles of the players – some of whom have come from severely disadvantaged backgrounds. This is set against an overall redemption and coming-of-age “last chance” theme for the group of men struggling to find their place.
Team academic advisor Brittany Wagner is featured prominently as she is tasked with getting all team members to graduate on time. Head coach Buddy Stephens’ struggles with controlling his temper is also a major theme, which is often juxtaposed with his devout Christian faith that he attempts to impart on the team.
Audible (2021)
It follows Maryland School for the Deaf senior athlete Amaree McKenstry-Hall and his teammates’ journey to defend their winning streak, while simultaneously coping with the tragic loss of a close friend to suicide.
The documentary documents other students at the school’s campus in Frederick, Maryland and McKenstry-Hall’s personal life. In 2020 McKenstry-Hall completed his studies at MSD.

The Replacements (2000)
When the pampered players of the Washington Sentinels go on strike, club owner Edward O’Neill (J. Warden) enlists the help of seasoned coach Jimmy McGinty (G. Hackman) to assemble a replacement team. Although already retired, McGinty agrees, but with his conditions. The most important thing is that no one, not even O’Neill, should interfere in the selection of players.
He assembles an unusual team that includes two hardened gangster rappers, a fast-footed store keeper, an ex-sumo wrestler, a Welsh rugby player, a deaf-mute player, a prisoner on a “work release” program, etc. The captain of the team is supposed to be ex-professional player Shane Falco ( K.
