Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995–1996)
It’s an apocalyptic series with Judeo-Christian symbols from the book of Genesis and biblical apocryphal writings: huge demonic beings, called “Angels”, attack the earth in 2015 and three teenagers fight them in giant robots.
Among them is the main character, 14-year-old Shinji, an insecure teenager suffering from anxiety and depression. The series belongs to the Japanese mecha genre, i.e. animated films about giant robots. It has 26 episodes and 2 special anime movies (Death and Rebirth and End of Evangelion).
Heaven’s Lost Property (2009–2010)
The story revolves around Tomoki Sakurai, a young man struggling for a life of peace and quiet when he encounters Ikaros, an Angeloid who fell from the sky, and other Angeloids as the series progresses.
Heaven’s Lost Property covers events up to the Nymph/Harpies storyline of the manga, with most of the stories resequenced to fit the themes of the episodes, for instance, the visit to Mikako Satsukitane’s place is coupled with the island vacation trip. Angel Tales (2001– )
The main character, Gorō Mutsumi, has no luck at all, not with jobs, nor with his schooling, and especially not with women. That is until the day he meets a fortune teller who informs him that he will have a fateful encounter and adds a spell to his cell phone that allows his guardian angels to appear to him. Gorō does not believe her and walks away as he remembers all of his previous times of bad luck with women.
It is then seen that he meets three girls who are waiting for him as he is bathing. They say they are now his guardian angels, sent to earth from the spirit realm. They are the first three of his twelve beloved pets who had died due to Gorō’s poor luck, returning to him on earth. He does not find out they are his pets at first.
Soon more of his former pets return to him as guardian angels, and each desires to be his favorite. They also have fears from their past lives that they must overcome, and they must learn to live with each other. It is the only way they will stand a chance of helping Gorō turn his life around.
These girls however are not the only ones on earth; because of Gorō’s own past life, there are strange people out there trying to put a stop to these girls turning his luck around. For their own reasons, these people fear Gorō and desire him out of the way. As the story progresses the girls learn they must protect Gorō not only from his own bad luck but from these other people, without fully understanding either who they are or why they want to harm their beloved master.
High School DxD (2012–2018)
Set during the struggle among the devils, fallen angels, and angels, the story follows the adventures of Issei Hyodo. Issei is a perverted high school student who is killed by his first date, who is revealed to be a fallen angel. He is revived by Rias Gremory, who is a crimson-haired school beauty that is actually a devil, and becomes her servant.
Steel Angel Kurumi (1999–2000)
Steel Angel Kurumi 1: The story follows a young boy named Nakahito Kagura. He is pushed by a group of his classmates to go into a house that is rumored to belong to a mad scientist. While inside, he comes across what seems to be a lifelike doll. At the same time, the Japanese Army carries out an attack on the house. During the attack, the “doll” falls over and Nakahito accidentally kisses it, causing it to awaken. The doll turns out to be a Steel Angel called Kurumi, who is being hunted by the military for mysterious reasons.
Steel Angel Kurumi 2: Seventy-five years later, Nako Kagura is the great-granddaughter of the main protagonist from the previous series who is shown to be a high school student and an aspiring musician who also gets her chance to discover the existence of Kurumi and the Steel Angels. Unfortunately, after Kurumi steals her first kiss, Nako’s wealthy childhood friend Uruka Sumeragi becomes furious and upset; and does everything in her power (including hiring her father’s highly trained agents and powerful mecha-like robots) to defeat Kurumi and win back Nako’s affection.

Oh My Goddess! (1993–1994)
Keiichi Morisato is a college sophomore who accidentally calls the Goddess Help Line. The goddess Belldandy materializes and tells him that her agency has received a system request from him and has been sent to grant him a single wish. Believing that a practical joke is being played on him, he wishes that she will stay with him forever, and his wish is granted.
Since he is unable to live with Belldandy in his male-only dorms, they are forced to look for alternative housing, eventually seeking shelter in an old Buddhist temple. They are allowed to stay there indefinitely after the young monk living there leaves on a pilgrimage to India upon being impressed by Belldandy’s intrinsic goodness.
Keiichi’s life with Belldandy becomes even more hectic when her elder sister Urd and her younger sister Skuld move in as well. A series of adventures ensue as his relationship with Belldandy develops.

On their way home from school one day, they are attacked by a devil by the name of Pluie who is a servant to the high ruler of the devil world, Raindevila.
When her friends are hypnotized into attacking Momoko, a beautiful man comes down from the sky named Limone, who is from the angel world and gives Momoko a compact case. Opening the compact, she is told by Aphrodite, the ruler of the angel world, that she is one of the legendary Love Angels, Wedding Peach.
Momoko transforms into Wedding Peach and manages to snap her friends out of Pluie’s control. Over the course of the story, Yuri and Hinagiku also find out that they also love angels and the three must protect the humans from the devils and defeat Raindevila.
Omishi Magical Theater: Risky Safety (1999)
It follows the journeys of an apprentice shinigami, or death god, named Risky and an apprentice angel named Safety who have been trapped in the same body. Whoever is in charge of the body depends on the emotions of those around them; if people are happy, then Safety appears, but if people are upset, then Risky takes charge.

Shattered Angels (2007)
Shattered Angels revolves around Kū Shiratori, an apparently-normal high-school girl, who enjoys school life in the large city of Academia. Academia is one of the signs of recovery for humanity ten years after the greatest disaster humankind had ever seen. Kū has a recurring dream in which a prince meets her and takes her away. One day, while her schoolmates are preparing for the upcoming school festival, the prince from her dreams appears. Named Kyoshiro Ayanokoji, his request is the same as in Kū’s dreams: “Let’s go, together”.
Most of the main characters are involved in romantic relationships, and Kū is uncertain of who is in love with whom. The Absolute Angels are superhuman, and to remain so they must draw energy from humans through their lips. The Angels materialize, controlling their mecha from without and using large, mechanized limbs. During a battle, the angels phase into and out of their angelic forms. As in Kannazuki no Miko, the names of the mecha are drawn from artifacts and figures of Japanese and European mythology.
Burst Angel (2004)
In the near future, due to an unusual rise in criminal activity, it has become legal to possess firearms in Japan so lawful citizens can protect themselves. At the same time, the government established the Recently Armed Police of Tokyo, whose methods are exterminating criminals rather than arresting them.

Maria the Virgin Witch (2015– )
Set in France during the Hundred Years’ War, it follows Maria, who is one of the most powerful witches of her era. She intervenes against the warring nations by using her succubus and incubus familiars to manipulate the opposing factions, as well as large-scale illusions, all for the sake of helping the people and maintaining peace.
As a result, she has gained the appreciation of several villagers and the hostility of the Church, which considers her a heretic. Yet Maria is still a virgin and her own familiars tease her about it. As news of her actions spreads, Archangel Michael focuses on Maria and rejects her interference in human affairs.

Kotarou Higuchi is befriended by his neighbor Misha, an angel-in-training. He is later acquainted with Shia, a demon, who is urged by her forgotten memories to search for something. Kotarou continues his daily life until Shia absorbs his life energy and leaves town.
Kotarou investigates and discovers Shia is his great-grandmother who is searching for his dying great-grandfather, Taro Higuchi. After the revelation, Shia regains her memories and mourns Taro’s death before she also dies. Afterward, Kotarou learns that Misha’s test involves helping Kotarou find happiness; regardless of the result, the two will separate when the test’s deadline is reached.
Realizing Heaven’s true intent, Kotarou asks Misha to rid him of his ability to see angels as he has to search for happiness himself; Misha passes the test and becomes the angel. The series ends with the two returning to their separate lives.
